Workshop on LHC Interaction Region Correction Systems (First Announcement) May 6--7, 1999 at Brookhaven National Laboratory ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the first announcement for the Workshop on the LHC Interaction Region Correction Systems to be held at Brookhaven National Laboratory May 6-7, 1999. The workshop will bring together CERN, BNL, FNAL, and other interested personnel to address Interaction Region magnet field quality issues, to review the principle and efficiency of correction and compensation schemes, and to finalize a compensation plan and corrector layout for the LHC Interaction Region. The workshop scope will cover FNAL and KEK built quadrupoles, BNL built separation dipoles, and European Interaction Region correctors. A detailed agenda will be forwarded to the participants as the plan for the workshop coalesces. Tentatively, the first morning of the workshop will be reserved for discussing the field quality issues of the IR magnets including the impact of systematic quadrupole errors (b6, b10), a comparison of possible arrangements of KEK and FNAL quadrupoles in the triplets, and the issues related to LHC heavy-ion operation. The first afternoon will concentrate on IR specific compensation schemes and plans including decisions on magnet orientation and tuning shim application, and possible local corrector contents and layouts. The second morning will be dedicated to more general correction schemes including global correction, beam-based correction and sorting. The second afternoon will be reserved for final discussions. We plan to collect and publish the contributions to the workshop in forms of binded proceedings. Participants are required to submit their papers in electronic format two weeks after the workshop. Participants are requested to complete the enclosed registration form and return it to Pam Manning. A no-host dinner will be organized on May 6, 1999. A block of hotel rooms off-site of BNL has been reserved for the participants. If you desire such a room, please inform Pam Manning (pmanning@bnl.gov) using the attached form. The second announcement including the workshop agenda will be distributed in about two weeks. The up-to-date information of the workshop can be found at http://www.rhichome.bnl.gov/LHC/org/workshop.html We hope you will be able to attend the workshop.
