Cryogenic Testing Plans

December 2, 1996

Steve,

With regard to the cryogenic test plan for the first sextant.

The following lists the items we would nominally like to measure during the
run. I've included the list of parasitic measurements for your convenience.

Parasitic measurements:
----------------------
1- Process (S,R,U,H,M) heat leak measurements (delta-T) at normal flow
    conditions.
2- Process pressure drop measurements (M,R,U,H) during cooldown.
3- Process pressure drop measurements (warm M) concurrent with final
    leak check.
 4- Instrument air usage, nominal.
 5- Thermal cycle time.

Independent measurements:
------------------------
1- Magnet process heat load measurements with recoolers isolated
    from supply (boil-off measurements).
2- Magnet process heat load measurements (delta-T with low flow
    condition)
3- Magnet loop pressure drop as a function of flow at normal
    operating temperatures.
4- Cooling capability at simulated full ring impedance (post sextant
    impedance measurement).
5- Cooling performance with a high heat load condition (warm up
    heaters used as distributed calorimeter).

Independent measurements, 1-5 above, should take approximately 1or 2
eigth hour shifts each to complete. They do not need to be completed in
a consecutive manner, but will require magnets off, and stable cryogenic
and vacuum conditions.
