RHIC Retreat 1999
September 12, 1999

The 1999 RHIC Retreat will be held September 16 & 17 (Thursday & Friday) in 3 rooms on the 3rd floor, Student Activities Center, SUNY Stony Brook.

AGENDA

Goals:

  1. First and foremost, identify the successes and failures experienced during RHIC commissioning in July and August, for constructive internal technical discussion. Some of this discussion will come "from the floor" during technical presentations, and some during discussions in breakout sessions.
  2. Develop technical plans for future RHIC commissioning and operations, on a timescale from 3 months (in preparation for the December run) to 2 years (as far as accurately foreseeable).
  3. Third and least, consider the resource implications of such technical plans.

Attendance:

Attendance is by invitation only, in order for the discussion groups to be small, open, and direct. See the list of invitees.

Schedule:

Three meeting rooms and a commons area of the 3rd floor of the Student Activities Center (SAC) building will be available to us from 0800 to 1800 on both days.

Food service. A light breakfast (bagels, et cetera) will be available in the commons area from 0800 until the plenary session starts at 0830. Coffee will be served morning and afternoon. Lunch is NOT catered. There is a large university food court on the ground floor of the SAC building.

Plenary and Breakout sessions. Each day begins and ends with a plenary session. Three "breakout" sessions run in parallel after coffee in the morning, and before coffee in the afternoon. See the AGENDA for detailed information. Please note that these schedules will continue to evolve (probably) up until the end of the retreat.

Location, parking:

The SAC is located in square D5 of the small and big Stony Brook university maps. The recommended place to park is the "H" lot, which is the big black rectangle in square C5 of the maps. However, the BNL red sticker on your car mirror allows you to park in any "Faculty/Staff" parking lot on campus. (Not all the campus police know this - if you get a parking ticket, ask Steve Peggs for the magic email address to get it canceled.)

Dinner, help:

A retreat dinner will be organized on Thursday evening, if enough interest is expressed to Steve Peggs or Pam Manning. Please also feel free to contact us for any other reason. However, if you have a "breakout session specific" question, please contact the appropriate session leader: Brennan (High Frequency) Clifford (Controls) Ganetis (Power Supplies & Ramps) Mackay (December Plans & Goals) Satogata (Beam Position Monitors) or Trbojevic (Beam Diagnostics & Instrumentation).
