March 12 2005 (Haixin) to run the CNI polarimeter from MCR, first login to the linux pc: ssh cnipol.ags.bnl.gov -l cniuser password (on paper) After login, type cd cni2005-dev then type ./cnirun.pl& At this point, the familiar GUI will popup and you can use it as in the past. April 16 2004 (Haixin) There is a tricky part of switch between different energies. The asym_cut.dat file located in ags2003/asym has to be modified. Currently, there are three files named as asym_cut12p5.dat, asym_cut41p5.dat, asym_cut46p5.dat. The names are self explained. They have to be copied to asym_cut.dat when that energy is used. Currently, it is for Ggamma=46.5. As an example, here is how to copy Ggamma=41.5 to the asym_cut.dat: cp asym_cut41p5.dat asym_cut.dat Mar 14 2004 3:48:12: The AGS CNI polarimeter is basically operational now. I left the perl script GUI to control the DAQ open on the 4 flat screen display at the "AGS area" in MCR. This is basically the same setup as last year. I'll give a brief 'how to' below, but this is subject to change as we'll be adding more features. Only User 4 is currently set up for polarimeter measurements. Make sure User 4 is loaded on the target control page. Also, make sure that the CNI control GUI is set to User 4 for on the pull down selector near the upper right corner. This sets the proper configuration file for the polarimeter. If you click on the "Current set" button, then you can view (but not edit) the configuration file. Putting the target in: We are currently using Target 3. On the "Commands:" section of the target control page, change from "Park" or "RotateOut" to "Target3". After the measurement, put back to "RotateOut" or to "Park" if you won't be using it for a while (e.g. during RHIC injection). Target Scan: On the CNI control GUI, use the "Target Scan" button to start the scan and the "Stop scan" button when finished. The number of events for each spill are displayed in the window. Adjust the rotary position of the target until you get the maximum rate. Taking a Measurement: Use the "Start Run" and "Stop Run" buttons at the top middle of the CNI control GUI. A message will pop up asking you to check a few things after you click "Start Run". After "Stop Run" a message reminding you to take the target out is shown. After you stop the run number should be automatically update for the next run. Analyzing the data: Use the "Analyze Latest run" button (lower-right corner) to run the analysis. After the analysis is finished running, use the "Plot" to display the results. You have to put the cursor on the window and press [Enter] to advance the page. The "Expert" button shows some additional plots. The "Options" button probably won't be used, so I won't describe it here. WARNING: You can change the run number manually, but you shouldn't need to. You may want to so you can review previous runs that you've taken ("Analyze .." and "Plot" will access the files associated with the displayed run number - 1). Just remember to put the run number back to the proper value before taking data, or you may overwrite a previous file. It's probably best not to edit the run number. If the GUI crashes or is not running, you can restarted by going to a terminal that's logged into our computer, cnipol.ags.bnl.gov. Go to the directory /home/igor/ags2003. Type the command ./cnirun_user.pl& Contact me if you have problems, 310-433-3552 Jeff Wood
